Inspiration
Live music is one of the most powerful ways people connect through art and culture, but discovering local shows and underground artists is often fragmented across different platforms. Our inspiration was to design a more engaging and intuitive interface that makes exploring live music events feel exciting and accessible. We wanted the experience to feel immersive, similar to the energy of a live concert.
What it does
Our project is a redesigned live music discovery platform that helps users explore concerts and music events happening around them. The redesign focuses on improving the visual hierarchy, usability, and engagement of the website.
Users can easily browse event information through a cleaner layout, interactive elements, and smoother transitions. Features such as animations, improved navigation, and dynamic content help make the experience more engaging and user-friendly.
How we built it
The hackathon challenge required us to keep the original HTML completely unchanged, so all improvements had to be implemented using CSS and JavaScript only.
To achieve this, we:
- Enhanced the visual layout using custom CSS and TailwindCSS
- Added JavaScript interactions and animations to improve engagement
- Implemented smoother transitions and UI feedback to make navigation feel more responsive
- Introduced a video intro and animated page elements to create a more immersive experience
By working within these constraints, we focused heavily on creative UI/UX solutions rather than structural changes.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was the restriction of not modifying the original HTML structure. This meant we had to carefully design our CSS selectors and JavaScript logic to work around the existing layout.
Another challenge was balancing visual creativity with usability. While we wanted to add animations and interactive elements, we also needed to ensure the interface remained intuitive and efficient for users.
What we learned
Through this project, we learned how much thoughtful UI and UX design can transform an existing website without altering its underlying structure. We also gained experience working within strict constraints, which pushed us to be more creative with styling, animations, and JavaScript interactions.
Additionally, collaborating as a team under time pressure helped us improve our workflow, communication, and ability to quickly iterate on design ideas.
What's next
In the future, this platform could be expanded with features such as:
- Personalized event recommendations
- Artist profiles and music previews
- Ticket purchasing integration
- Location-based concert discovery
These additions would help create a full ecosystem for discovering and supporting live music.
