Inspiration
One of our team members had a previous experience in fishing. We also knew that certain species were endangered, and all of us thought it would be nice to create a resource for people to help the endangered species of fish.
What it does
Our project uses a predetermined list of fish species in Virginia and prompts you for one of the fish species in the list. Then, it provides you with information and fun facts about that species, as well as how to help that species
How we built it
We used VSCode for the final site, but to collaborate we used repl.it. The languages we used were html, python, and CSS.
Challenges we ran into
At first we were not sure how to collaborate on the code, but then we decided to use repl.it. Additionally, in the beginning, none of the members in our team were not very familiar with html, but we used various online tutorials, like the ones provided in the student packet, and we were able to create a website for our project.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud ourselves for learning new languages and styles of code. Even though we had never made a website before, we were willing to learn how and have fun while doing it.
What we learned
Besides web development and formatting, we learned how to work as a team and manage time to adequately finish in time for the deadlines.
What's next for FishWatch
We hope to expand to areas other than Northern Virginia, and to implement a GPS function that uses your location to provide information of endangered fish in your area
