Inspiration
Inspired by a game we all enjoyed, Codenames, Amonguscodenames is Codenames recreated with custom designs and UI perfect for our friends' terrible humor.
What it does
This game is meant to be a tabletop simulator for the boardgame Codenames. Codenames is a two-teamed competition where teams have to be the first to remove all their pieces from the board. The game starts with 25 cards laid faced down, each with a single unique word on it(France, Deer, Triangle, Laptop, Running, etc...), 8 cards with colors corresponding to one team, 8 cards to the other, and 1 belonging to both teams. Alternating turns, teams have a designated hint giver give a single word hint for the guessers to attempt to choose the cards corresponding to their color (e.g. Hint: Places; cards chosen off: France, Britain).
How we built it
We used basic htm,l css, and javascript as a base, node.js for serverside and packaging, and vite as a front end tool to help with running the program. This was all done in vscode and a local server without using React.
Challenges we ran into
Text formatting was a large issue with getting the formatting just right, and also general design choice. Also, we attempted to be able to try host multiple clients to be able to play online, but we encountered a lot of backend issues. Also, none of us were very familiar to back end so learning the new technologies and how to properly sync it with our front end was a major issue we encountered.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We made a fun project that with a little bit more work and backend knowledge, could be something that we would boot up on a random weekend with friends to play for an hour every once in awhile. All the UI's and designs were custom made and our friends would enjoy the humor.
What we learned
We needed to plan things out more, we needed to research backend and we made the initial base but had no idea how to properly implement more complicated mechanics. Also, some issues weren't able to be resolved through searching online, so we need a better mastery of html and other general formatting things .
What's next for Amonguscodenames
