Inspiration

The inspiration behind Ameya came from a desire to empower individuals to understand their own potential and abilities through a structured psychological framework. By leveraging the RIASEC model, which categorizes vocational interests into six domains, we adapted it into five to simplify and enhance the user experience. This modification aimed to facilitate users, especially in developing countries, to make informed career decisions and to explore their innate skills and interests in an accessible manner.

What it does

Ameya is an application that guides users through a modified RIASEC test divided into five distinct domains. It assesses an individual’s mindset and vocational interests, providing detailed results and statistical analyses of their psychological profile. Beyond the quiz, Ameya offers educational blog posts and provides links to free courses related to the user’s areas of interest, fostering further personal and professional development.

How I built it

As the team lead in this hackathon, I utilized my experience in Kotlin development to build the core functionalities of Ameya. Collaborating closely with a team of developers, we integrated the modified RIASEC test into a user-friendly interface, ensuring the application was both robust and intuitive.

Challenges I ran into

One of the major challenges was adapting the RIASEC model to a five-domain framework that was still scientifically reliable yet more approachable for our target audience. Ensuring the accuracy of the psychological analysis while simplifying the interface required extensive research and iterative testing. Additionally, leading a diverse team under the tight timelines typical of hackathons demanded strong leadership and effective communication to keep everyone aligned with the project goals.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Leading Ameya to become the second runner-up in the competition stands out as a significant achievement. This accolade not only validated our technical solution but also the impact potential of our application. I am particularly proud of how we managed to make psychological assessment tools accessible and understandable, potentially benefiting thousands of users by guiding them towards fulfilling career paths.

What I learned

This project deepened my understanding of the complexities involved in modifying established psychological models to new formats and user needs. It also enhanced my skills in team leadership and project management, particularly in a multicultural and multidisciplinary team setting. Technically, I gained further insights into advanced Kotlin development and integrating psychological tools into software solutions.

What's next for Ameya

Looking forward, the plan for Ameya includes expanding its reach through collaboration with governmental and educational institutions to integrate it as a standard tool for career guidance. We aim to enhance the application’s features, including more personalized feedback mechanisms and interactive educational content. Additionally, we are exploring potential AI integrations to make the assessments more dynamic and responsive to individual user inputs.
