Inspiration

In 2025, political disillusionment doesn't need much inspiration, just a regular Monday afternon. I wanted to create a visual essay that captures the quiet deals and compromises that shape American politics, using AI tools to compress complex themes into visceral imagery.

What it does

American Betrayal is a 2:48 satirical short film that traces the erosion of democratic ideals through striking visual metaphors. It presents political disillusionment and decay as a process rather than a shocking revelation, inviting viewers to decide their own interpretation of the ending.

How we built it

• Visual Generation: Midjourney for 99% imagery and animation sequences. Kling 2.5 via KREA video was used for 2 frames
• Audio: "Full of Dreams" by DJ Taz Rashid (licensed) from Artlist
• Editing: iMovie
• Workflow: Solo production combining AI-generated assets with traditional editing techniques

Challenges we ran into

The main challenge was the same one every filmmaker faces: ensuring the story translates effectively to the audience. With AI-generated visuals, maintaining narrative coherence while letting the imagery speak for itself required careful curation and timing.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Creating a complete political satire using only AI tools and mobile editing. The project demonstrates how emerging technologies can democratize filmmaking while maintaining artistic integrity and thematic depth.

What we learned

AI visual generation in this context is about learning to curate and sequence imagery that builds narrative tension. The real skill is in selection and arrangement, not just generation. When done right, it compels an emotional response, and that's what you want with a project like this.

It's a complete work. Future political commentary will depend on ideas that emerge either naturally or by force of the zeitgeist.
