Inspiration
AmenTok was inspired by the way people now learn and receive encouragement through short videos. The goal is to create a focused Christian educational video space where short messages, teachings, and encouragement can be shared without being lost inside general social feeds.
What it does
AmenTok is a mobile-first progressive web app for short Christian videos. Viewers can watch vertical videos, like, share, save, receive notifications, and support the project. Administrators can publish and manage videos. The app generates share pages, tracks interactions, and supports installable PWA behavior.
How we built it
AmenTok is built with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Firebase Hosting, Firestore, Firebase Storage, Cloud Functions, Cloud Messaging, a service worker, FFmpeg video processing, and Wave checkout support. Firebase Functions process uploaded videos, generate covers, handle sharing pages, record interactions, and support admin tools.
Challenges
The biggest challenge was building a smooth short-video experience while also keeping a real admin workflow for publishing, processing, sharing, and tracking videos. We also had to think about mobile display, install behavior, notifications, and future community features.
Accomplishments
AmenTok already has a mobile video feed, installable PWA behavior, admin publication tools, video processing, share pages, interaction tracking, notification registration, and a foundation for Christian education/community content.
What we learned
We learned how to combine a simple viewer experience with a more powerful Firebase backend for video publishing, processing, analytics, and notifications.
What's next
Next steps include user profiles, church pages, Christian learning categories, moderation tools, recommendations, messaging, and richer creator workflows.
