Today, social media plays a large part in how we interact. From scrolling on Instagram reels to sharing Pinterest boards, we have the opportunity to browse and share new trends with a single swipe. With the ever-growing digital age, the current generation prefers the convenience of online shopping. However, with this, customers lose the opportunity to simply browse items. We wanted to cultivate this idea into a digital form of window shopping, where Amazon customers can browse new products based on their recent purchases and items currently in their wishlists and shopping carts. AI could be used to formulate algorithms individual to each user. New software developments like Amazon Inspire, which promotes a similar concept, contain links to items influencers are wearing, marketing, or selling. Our project aims to present individual products, as one would see window shopping, in a reel format. Users can double-tap to add items to their wishlist, share products with their family and friends, and add items straight to their shopping cart. We envision that this digital feature could be integrated as a tab into the already established Amazon Prime app.
We first started with the app layout we wanted to demonstrate. To mimic the reel format, we used the AI provided and did some research to create the swiping effect between product videos and the liking features. We used Swift through XCode to code the app and simulate it onto an iPhone 16.
Throughout the project, we encountered many license errors and incompatible versions of software. This majorly decreased our efficiency in developing a complete software to demonstrate our pitch. We learned of Amazon Inspire later on in the project, posing the challenge of working against an already-developed idea.
We learned how to use Swift and program an app that can be directly translated to iOS. We learned how to program a user-friendly app interface with swiping functions, liking animations, and pausing of videos which cover less than 50% of the page. Through this project, we were exposed to learning how to develop marketing strategies and present a concept that could come to fruition.
