Inspiration
As a group, we were all inspired by the possibilities of what Pesage can bring to gaming, whether in unique concepts or accessibility. We wanted to use our game to focus on an area that is often exploited for its natural resources and tourist attractions. Mary spent this summer in Bolivia and became well acquainted with the conservation efforts in the Amazon Rainforest.
What it does
We built a single-player strategy-based game where a company makes management decisions in the Amazon Rainforest. The game also uses real-time biometric scanning to track stress, which influences the available management choices.
How we built it
We started by outlining all the game pages and the flow we wanted to follow. Then we focused on building the frontend, which involved using a React framework to render our webpages. We integrated the Presage API and tested the biometric scanning. Lastly, we finalized our game rules and any remaining design elements.
Challenges we ran into
We had some difficulty implementing the Presage API, but we were able to combine ideas and help from the MLH helpers to successfully add it to our game.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are very proud of adding the API and the general theme of the game of raising awareness of the environmental threats occurring in the Amazon Rainforest.
What we learned
We learned how to implement an API and general game-making skills.
What's next for Amazon Under Pressure
We are hoping to expand the game features and solidify the game messaging surrounding capitalism and conservation.
