Amazon Counterfeiting Solution- Product Serialization

Inspiration

The inspiration for this project came from the knowledge I learned while researching blockchains and my creative application of what I learned about blockchains. I also saw a video of how a team of individuals applied blockchain to the farming industry. With blockchain, they can create a record of transactions for farmers in remote areas. This record of transactions allows these farmers to access banking and financial services at a better rate due to transaction records.

What it does

This solution allows its users to authenticate if an item is genuine or not.

How we built it

I built this solution using research and other knowledge to craft a solution that will reduce the pace at which counterfeiters can sell counterfeited items on major marketplaces such as Amazon.

Challenges we ran into

A challenge I ran into while developing this solution was understanding how far I could push corporations to adopt this solution. I met with Subject Matter Experts who helped me craft a sound policy to incentivize companies to adopt this solution. Another Challenge I encountered while developing this solution was working on the presentation for this project. Because I spent most of my development time researching and crafting my solution, less time was spent developing the project presentation. While developing this solution, another difficulty I faced was CLONING: What happens if a bad actor takes a picture of a product's UPC and uses the same code for a counterfeit product? Well, that would be called "CLONING."

Part of the nonprofit's mission is to research, develop and invest in new printing methods for UPCs while making it difficult or economically invaluable for others to recreate the codes or printing methods at home using standard tools. HP is doing some fantastic things regarding printing and serial number printing.

An accomplishment that I am proud of is completing this project and the help I received from the Blue Clarity Team, Julia Choi, Mentors- David P, and many more.

What we learned

I learned that working in a team is more beneficial than working individually.

What's next for Amazon Counterfeiting Solution

If my solution wins, I hope to work with CINA on follow-up research or hopefully use this as a means to land a meaningful job at Amazon's AWS team/ Organization.
