Proposal for amiokay.com: Empowering Individuals to Make Educated Health Decisions
Inspiration
In today's world, it is increasingly difficult to keep up with the overwhelming amount of information available, particularly concerning politics, health policies, and other pressing global issues. Further, how can you know what source is reliable? These constant stresses can leave individuals feeling disconnected from understanding how these issues affect their daily lives. For minority groups, particularly women and LGBTQIA individuals, this challenge is even more pronounced. Navigating complex policies, shifting medical advice, and ever-changing societal standards can create confusion and uncertainty.
What it does
At amiokay.com, we recognize the impact these complexities have on people's well-being. We aim to provide an accessible and empowering platform that enables individuals to take control of their health through informed decision-making, reliable resources, and meaningful connections.
Mission: Our mission at amiokay.com is to empower individuals, with a focus on women and LGBTQIA communities, to make educated decisions about their health and well-being. We aim to bridge the gap between complex information and real-life decisions by providing unbiased, easy-to-understand content that helps individuals navigate today's rapidly changing landscape of healthcare and wellness.

We strive to ensure the information is unbiased, evidence-based, and regularly updated to reflect the latest scientific findings. 2. Simplified Medical Information: Medical jargon can be intimidating and difficult to understand. We will break down complex medical concepts and make them digestible for everyone. This approach helps users gain a clear understanding of important health topics, empowering them to make informed decisions and engage in meaningful conversations with their healthcare providers. 3. Resource Directory: Amiokay.com will feature a directory of resources, including contact information for support groups, mental health organizations, and local healthcare services, tailored to specific needs. Our aim is to ensure that individuals can access the help and support they require in their community. 4. Community Blog: Our community blog will serve as a platform for users to share personal stories, health tips, and experiences, all while fostering a supportive and inclusive environment. By providing a space for open dialogue, we hope to reduce the stigma surrounding health topics and encourage positive conversations around wellness and self-care. 5. Education and Connection: Through our platform, we aim to foster a sense of community by educating users on health topics, promoting discussions, and offering emotional and practical support. By addressing the needs of marginalized communities, we strive to create a space where individuals feel empowered, heard, and supported.
Conclusion: Amiokay.com is designed to provide individuals, particularly women and LGBTQIA individuals, with the tools and resources necessary to make informed, health-driven decisions in their daily lives. We believe in the importance of your power of choice for your health.
How we built it
We built this website UI using Figma. We created multiple pages, including the main page, publication page, news page, and resources page, each with example articles to demonstrate the full extent of the website. With a soft color palette, it welcomes users into the safe space created and encourages them to learn more about the medical world in a simpler way.
Challenges we ran into
One of the challenges we ran into was trying to create a home button that would link each page back to the main search page. We tried to get the logo to format as a home button at the top of the page near the rest of the toolbar, but the logo was unable to move to our desired location. Another challenge was our page limit; while there was at least one example for the articles, we had planned to create a pop-up for scientific words that are hard to understand and simplify it for the users. This became an issue when we tried to create the pop-up but couldn't get it to format properly with the rest of the website preview. So, instead, we added a link under the resource page that connects to a page with a list of words and their definitions.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
As a team, we are most proud of the core idea that we thought of for creating a safe space for people to be able to search and understand the ever-changing medical world and its policies. Creating this website is important, especially for the current political climate that is targeting health coverage for minorities and those who are part of the LGBTQIA+ community.
What we learned
We learnt that Figma can be a lot harder to work with sometimes than initially thought. While our website turned out really well, the software had some issues on our end, but we eventually worked through them and adjusted accordingly. I believe the end result turned out well, and we are very proud of the final product.
What's next for "am I okay?"
The next steps would be to continue working on the development of this website and really fleshing it out. We plan on doing this by building out more of the medical jargon wording and building the pop-ups. We will also create a linkable home button that will allow users to navigate back to the home page. Lastly, we will also add more details to the page, creating a more friendly feel that will encourage people to feel safe in a world that can sometimes feel like its being flipped upsidedown.
