Inspiration
It all started on a Friday - three aspiring developers, desperate for an internship in this brutal job market. Then came a stroke of genius. We were so delusional, we figured: why not build something to measure just how cooked we really are? That’s when Am I Cooked? was born - our take on a Delusion Calculator for job hunters like us.
What it does
You can either take our quick survey or upload a resume and you will get back a score on the Cooked-O-Meter (patent pending). You will also get back tips and tricks to make your application a little less cooked.
How we built it
We created a website mostly in the front end then plugged in a database to store the results of the survey. We then took the entry and analyzed it using the Gemini API.
Challenges we ran into
Parsing the pdf was the hardest part of the project. We had to look through many different libraries to find a version that worked for our project. This was the biggest roadblock. Additionally, these libraries and other components of our code required server-side code, so we had to deploy this backend as well.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the hyper-polished UI that is consistent throughout the site. The transitions between the components are smooth and well thought out.
What we learned
We learned how to properly optimize generative AI API calls to leverage the creativity of the models, while maintaining efficiency.
Is the future cooked?
We are hoping to build in a job finder into the site in the future. It will pull jobs from the biggest job-boards based on the survey the user initially fills out and will automatically apply to those sites.
