5.1 million Americans are suffering from Alzheimer's Disease. Alzheimer's disease is a progressive, degenerative disorder that attacks neurons in the brain and thus results in loss of memory, thinking, language skills and behavioral changes. Patients suffering with Alzheimer's especially in the late stages have difficulty in partaking in simple daily tasks such as brushing their teeth, going to the bathroom and eating. This application helps doctors and loved ones keep track of patient record, what medications the patient is taking, and tips on how to improve patient's health depending on what stage of Alzheimer's the patient is suffering from. This application was designed to help organize an Alzheimer's patient portfolio which we hope to in the future broaden this application to help actually enhance life quality of the patient.
Our application works by allowing users to enter patient information about people suffering from Alzheimer’s. This allows caretakers to keep track of patient's state of health.
Because we are still learning java, we had problems making the components of the application work. At times, it was difficult to format the components of the application in the right spot. We also had difficulty getting the display to refresh after the user clicked certain buttons.
We were able to make an application that was able to take in and store information in a clear and informative way. We were proud of being able to work so well together to accomplish a challenging task.
From this assignment, we learned that we should not underestimate the amount of time it can take to get an application to run properly. While we had the design and implementation all planned out, we ran into a lot of problems along the way, trying to get everything to work together.
In the future we would like to track patients medication intake. We also hunk it would be cool to add a feature allowing users to upload a picture of the patient. With further work, we could also add more to it and potentially make it into a cell phone application.
