We wanted to make a convenient way for prospective real estate buyers to check out the safety of various areas.

What it does is a website containing an interactive map of Los Angeles, showing all reported crimes from the weekend of March 22-24, 2018. It is colour coded based on the general type of crime, and the points can be clicked on to reveal additional details.

How we built it

We used the Los Angeles Open Data and the Mapbox SDK to construct the map and overlay it with information. We hosted it on a domain from

Challenges we ran into

We were quite inexperienced in all of these areas (HTML, Mapbox, website hosting, etc.) so had to learn a lot along the way.

What's next for

This framework can easily be extended to display a broader sample of crime data, as well as additional data sets, in order to provide an even clearer picture of neighbourhood demographics.
