Inspiration

Traditional investment platforms focus heavily on stocks and bonds, leaving many investors unaware of alternative assets that can provide portfolio diversification and inflation hedging. We were inspired by the growing interest in tangible investments and the lack of accessible platforms that democratize alternative investing for everyday investors.

What it does

AltInvest educates users about alternative investments including wine, art, collectibles, precious metals, and luxury goods. It provides market analysis, price tracking, performance metrics, and connects users with verified dealers and auction houses. The platform offers portfolio tracking tools, investment calculators, and personalized recommendations based on risk tolerance and investment goals.

How we built it

We developed AltInvest using a modern tech stack with Bolt. We prompted algorithms for asset identification, while implementing secure authentication and portfolio management features. The platform includes real-time data feeds and machine learning models for investment recommendations.

Challenges we ran into

Sourcing reliable pricing data from fragmented alternative asset markets proved difficult, as many dealers and auction houses use proprietary systems. We also faced challenges in creating standardized valuation methods across diverse asset classes and ensuring data accuracy. Building trust with traditional alternative investment networks and establishing partnerships required significant relationship building.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We successfully aggregated data from over multiple verified dealers and auction houses, created the first unified dashboard for tracking diverse alternative assets, and developed proprietary algorithms that can predict market trends.

What we learned

Alternative asset markets are more complex and relationship-driven than traditional markets. We learned the importance of education in this space, as most users needed significant guidance before making their first alternative investment. Data standardization across different asset classes requires flexible, adaptive systems rather than rigid frameworks.

What's next for AltInvest

We're planning to add fractional ownership opportunities, allowing users to invest in high-value assets with smaller amounts. Future features include AI-powered investment advisors, integration with traditional brokerages, and expansion into emerging alternative assets like NFTs and carbon credits. We also aim to launch a mobile app and establish institutional partnerships.
