What It Does
Volunteers can search and sign up for volunteer opportunities via web or mobile. Volunteer Coordinators can find active volunteers based on their geographic distance to a site. Volunteers can record text notes and send messages to volunteer coordinators. Volunteers can pin their current geographic location and select preferred areas of deployment. Volunteers can search and sign up for volunteer opportunities via web or mobile. Volunteers can create a profile to share their causes/interests, skills, training, and experience.
How We Built It
Market Research Requirements Gathering Ideation Mockups Proof of Concept Rapid Prototyping
Then we used Angular, C#, SQL Server, Azure App Service, Azure IL, Dapper, NPM, Yarn, Angular and discord. The journey was complex and requires a deep dive. However, we did provide below a link to a power point that discusses high level thoughts and methodologies and the high level architecture.
Requirements

Volunteers should be able to select preferred contact methods. Volunteers should be able to select causes/interests. Volunteers should be able to select skills, certifications, and training. Volunteers should be able to track the hours they have completed for an organization. Volunteers should be able to add notes and comments to their volunteer profile. Volunteer coordinators should be able to search for volunteers by skills, capabilities, and interests. Volunteer coordinators should be able to search for volunteers based on their geographic location to a volunteer site. Volunteer coordinators should be able to check-in volunteers as they report for their assignment. Volunteer coordinators should be able to log breaks taken by volunteers during their assignment. Volunteer coordinators should be able to set up and track volunteer sites.

Implications & Next Steps
Raise seed funding from a coalition of NGOs interested in the app. Evaluate potential gains in revenue, savings, and ROI. Scale and segment marketing strategies. Deploy additional features. Publish to app stores for informal beta testing. Elicit and incorporate feedback.
Differentiation
AltruList differs from existing offerings from Volunteer Match, Citizen Action Team, and HandsOn Volunteer, which powers Centro para el Desarrollo del Voluntariado, in that it integrates the core features of volunteer matching and volunteer management applications, databases, and search engines into a single solution by using power API services and algorithms: API to connect to Eventbrite to search and match volunteers to existing events on the popular event management platform. Custom APIs for sending emails and taking notes. Algorithm to match volunteers and organizations based on event-specific or desired skills, capabilities, causes/interests, availability, and geographic distance.
Social Impact
Using AltruList, volunteer organizations will have real-time access to a broad network of active volunteers who are specifically interested in the causes they support, have the desired skills that they need, and are within the ideal geographic location for easy deployment. The social impact benchmarks for this solution are: Increased enrollment of new and active volunteers. Increase in volunteer satisfaction and engagement. Increase in strength and quality of connections between volunteers and local organizations. Increased interest in civic engagement and global citizenship. Efficient and cost-effective delivery of public goods and services.
Challenges We Ran Into
The main challenge was communication and coordination of task to accomplish the most amount of features in a very short period of time.
Accomplishments We're Proud Of
We were able to create many integrations and custom APIs that were leveraged by Hector , Christian and Bryan. I am proud of their hard work and that they took this opportunity to learn and demonstrate their skills.
What We Learned
We feel confident that we can create a world-class platform for everyone for free, based on the progress that we made in the past 24-hours, and the utility of our PoC. The major challenge we are presented with is the cost of maintaining the application and investing time to continue developing additional features. As is the case for Wikipedia, it makes sense that the community that leverages this resource subsidizes the cost of developing, maintaining, and sustaining it. In terms of our security architecture, there was none. So, we’ve implemented a cron job that will delete our Azure farm.
What's Next for AltruList
Raise seed funding from a coalition of NGOs interested in the app. Evaluate potential gains in revenue, savings, and ROI. Scale and segment marketing strategies. Deploy additional features. Publish to app stores for informal beta testing. Elicit and incorporate feedback.
