Our project centered on redesigning the platform of Altrovia, an AI-powered protocol intelligence tool built to help pharmaceutical companies, CROs, and research institutions design better clinical trials. Altrovia tackles one of the most costly and time-consuming challenges in drug development — the drafting and optimization of clinical trial protocols, where a single avoidable amendment can delay a drug's path to market by nine months and cost tens of millions of dollars. The scope of the redesign was significant: improving the overall user flow, navigation, and how AI insights are surfaced across the platform, all while maintaining a clean, modern aesthetic that breaks away from the legacy design conventions that define most enterprise pharma tools.
The central challenge we faced was entering a completely unfamiliar problem space with less than two days to get up to speed. To bridge that gap as quickly as possible, we went straight to the source: we arranged a direct interview with Altrovia's CEO to understand the product's core value proposition, the pain points most frequently raised by users, and the design priorities the team cared most about. That conversation gave us a grounded, first-hand understanding of what the platform needs to do and for whom. We supplemented it with an in-depth review of Altrovia's live website, product demo materials, and supporting documents provided by the team.
The resulting redesign focused on three core improvements. First, we restructured the information architecture of Altrovia's most critical workflows — Trial Intelligence Analysis and Protocol Complexity Assessment — helping researchers navigate through the dense, data-heavy screens. Second, we introduced a richer AI insights layer, moving beyond passive data display to surface specific, actionable suggestions that help researchers identify weaknesses in their study design and protocol before they become costly amendments. Finally, we gave the platform a visual overhaul — introducing a fresh color palette and a clean, minimalistic design language that feels modern and purposeful, deliberately distancing Altrovia from the static, outdated aesthetic that still dominates most enterprise pharma software today.
