🌐 AltMe – Your Internet Alter Ego Generator
🚀 About the Project
AltMe is a playful, AI-powered web app that generates your fictional internet alter ego — including a fake name, username, bio, sample tweet, online hobby, and a weird secret — all with a single Bolt-powered one-shot prompt.
This project was created for the Bolt One-Shot Hackathon, where the challenge was to build an app powered by just one prompt. AltMe is designed to be fully frontend-based, easy to use, and fun to share.
💡 What Inspired Me
The internet brings out alternate personas in all of us — whether it's your meme-loving Twitter self, your serious LinkedIn self, or your mysterious Discord identity. I wanted to capture that idea and make it tangible (and hilarious) using AI.
I was also fascinated by how much character and depth a single, well-crafted prompt can generate. Could I create a fun product without writing multiple prompts, training a model, or setting up a backend? That question inspired AltMe.
🛠️ How I Built It
- Frontend Framework: React + Vite (hosted on Vercel)
- Styling: Tailwind CSS (with a custom neon-glow theme)
- API Integration: Used the Bolt API via a single, comprehensive one-shot prompt
- State Management: React hooks
- Shareability: Exported ego cards and Tweet-share buttons
Everything is built on the client side — no backend required. Bolt handles all the creative logic, while the UI focuses on delivering it in a shareable and delightful way.
🧠 What I Learned
- How powerful a single, well-structured prompt can be
- How to simplify an app idea down to its core, without compromising fun
- How to turn AI outputs into an engaging product experience
- How to think “prompt-first” as a development strategy
🧩 Challenges I Faced
- Prompt Crafting: Designing a single prompt that could produce consistent, funny, and diverse alter egos across different tones and names took a lot of trial and error.
- Frontend UX: Presenting generated data in a way that feels magical yet user-friendly.
- No Backend Rule: I had to creatively simulate dynamic behavior (like identity generation) purely on the client, while also thinking about security and API key safety.
🏁 Final Thoughts
AltMe is fun, fast, and free — a project that showcases the power of Bolt in a single click. It’s not just a demo — it’s an experience that invites people to laugh, share, and see a side of themselves they didn’t know existed online.
Try it. Share it. And meet the you that the internet never expected.
