Inspiration
Our idea was to encourage people to choose alternate paths over the most crowded public transportation lines by creating a way to interact with stations.
What it does
Our MVP tracks users location and checks if he's nearby a station. If so, the app allows user to take a picture within certain range in a snapchat-wise fashion. Once taken photo is chosen, it's being uploaded on a backend service, where it's stored to allow further interaction with it. For every interaction with the app user receives points, which can be later used for promotional purposes.
How we built it
We've built an android application for users experience and set backend service on Microsoft Azure to provide user database.
Challenges we ran into
We had some problems with setting up the backend and getting endpoints to work. Android Studio integrity issue due to outdated version.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Building a Snapchat-like view that allows user to take pictures and then either take action on them or discard them and take another ones was no trivial task.
What we learned
When working on a project with a tight deadline a team must have a good thought trough plan. Informing about obstacles one encounters as they appear can really help to come up with a solution sooner.
What's next for Alteroute
Further SBB APIs integration, backend improvements, UI design for the app and a lots of more functionalities (implementing Augmented Reality for taking pictures, maybe?) to further gamify app user experience.
