Inspiration
We all love asking “What if…?” questions, but usually they stay as daydreams. We wanted to bring those wild alternate realities to life using AI — turning imagination into news, memes, and visuals you can actually see and share.
What it does
Alternate Universe Simulator lets you type any “What if?” scenario and instantly generates:
📰 A fake news headline + article from that reality
🎨 An AI-generated meme/image
🎤 (Optional) A short voiceover reading the news
It’s fun, viral, and makes the impossible feel real in seconds.
How we built it
Frontend: Next.js + TailwindCSS for a clean, minimal UI
Backend: Node.js + Express for API routing
AI Models:
GPT for generating alternate universe news & text
DALL·E / Stable Diffusion for creating meme-style images
TTS API (optional) for voiceover
Hosting: Vercel (frontend) + Render (backend)
Challenges we ran into
Keeping responses funny but coherent (prompt engineering was key).
Balancing speed vs. creativity for real-time generation.
Getting image results to match the absurd “What if?” scenarios.
Time pressure of building a polished, working demo in under 48 hours.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Built a working full-stack app in just 48 hours.
Created an experience that feels fun, playful, and instantly shareable.
Learned how to combine text + image + voice AI into one seamless product.
Made judges laugh — and that was the goal!
What we learned
The power of prompt design in making AI outputs entertaining.
How to stitch together multiple AI APIs in a short timeframe.
That even “useless” ideas can become engaging experiences when executed well.
