Inspiration

Photos can be hard to find after they get mixed into one crowded camera roll. AltCam starts with a simple idea: choose where a photo belongs before you take it.

What it does

Pick an organized folder before shooting, then capture photos and videos directly into that destination. AltCam also includes pro camera controls, live filters such as VHS, and drawing tools for notes and annotations. No account or sign-in is required.

How we built it

AltCam is built natively for Android with Kotlin and for iOS with SwiftUI. RevenueCat powers optional AltCam+ purchases. The camera and library workflows are designed around selecting a destination first, so organizing is part of capture rather than a cleanup step afterward.

Challenges we ran into

The main challenge is keeping capture fast while making the save location obvious. Choosing a folder should take only a moment and should not interrupt the camera experience.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

AltCam brings folder organization, camera controls, live looks, and annotations together in one camera workflow, helping keep personal and work photos easier to separate.

What we learned

A small decision at capture time can prevent a lot of sorting later.
