Inspiration

Many teens are plagued with the same problem: sneaky parents devilishly trying to catch a fleeting glimpse of one's computer screen. This is the inspiration between Alt+Tab Hero. Alt-tab is the universal Windows keyboard shortcut for switching tabs quickly and effectively.

What it does

The website progresses through a series of images showing a pink-haired mother turning around to peek at our protagonist's screen, and the user must quickly alt-tab away from what they were looking at.

How we built it

We built it by modifying the Intel XDK IoT Edition's preset Touch Monitoring html and javascript code.

Challenges we ran into

We definitely ran into many, many challenges. However, we plowed through most of them, using the best of our allotted time. One challenge was that our Intel Edison was malfunctioning. It did not work on any of our computers, yet worked without a hitch on one of the teacher's computers. This took up much of our time, rifling through search results and asking others, yet we only truly solved the issue when we traded our malfunctioning Edison with another, unused Edison. Another was when one of our teammates could not access the images for our project. This teammate also had the entirety of the project on his computer, and sending it would take time. Therefore, after contact with adults and several trials, we were able to obtain access to the images and let our project work the way we wanted it to.

Accomplishments that we are proud of

We are proud of being able to persist despite the many difficult challenges we went through. This is, after all, our first Hackathon, and although the people around us were developing incredibly cool looking applications with tons of real world uses, we wanted to start simple, and our code reflects this mindset.

What we learned

This was our first Hackathon, and we mainly wanted to get a firm grasp of what it was like. It was definitely a riveting experience unlike any other event I had been to. We learned how to problem solve, how to participate at a Hackathon, and of course, learned some Javascript and Html in the process.

What's next for Alt+Tab Hero

Because we attended this Hackathon to understand what it was like, and how our application has little real world value, we are most likely not going to make any edits or sequels to Alt+Tab Hero.

Thanks!
