Inspiration
Students and families receive countless announcements about scholarships, competitions, hackathons, training programs, and educational opportunities. However, information is often scattered across multiple platforms, difficult to understand, and easy to miss. We wanted to create a solution that transforms overwhelming information into clear actions and personalized opportunities, helping users make informed decisions and never miss important deadlines.
What it does
NextStep AI analyzes documents, PDFs, screenshots, and user requests to simplify complex information. It summarizes content, extracts deadlines and requirements, prioritizes tasks, generates actionable checklists, and recommends relevant opportunities such as scholarships, hackathons, volunteering programs, internships, and learning resources. It also provides personalized study support and learning plans.
How we built it
We designed an AI-powered workflow that combines document analysis, information extraction, recommendation systems, and personalized planning. The platform processes uploaded files and user inputs, identifies key information, categorizes priorities, and generates tailored guidance and opportunities based on the user's goals, interests, and profile.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was organizing information from different formats and sources into a clear and consistent structure. Another challenge was creating personalized recommendations while ensuring that the generated action plans remain simple, practical, and easy to follow.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We created a solution that goes beyond traditional AI chatbots by transforming information into actionable steps. We successfully combined opportunity discovery, task prioritization, educational support, and personalized guidance within a single platform designed specifically for students and families.
What we learned
Through this project, we learned how important accessibility and clarity are when dealing with educational and opportunity-related information. We also gained valuable experience in AI-driven information extraction, recommendation systems, user-centered design, and workflow automation.
What's next for NextStep AI
Our next steps include integrating real-time opportunity databases, expanding support for multiple languages, adding calendar synchronization and deadline reminders, improving recommendation accuracy, and building partnerships with educational institutions and organizations to provide verified opportunities directly through the platform.
