Inspiration
I personally don't have many close LGBTQ friends or resources and the online resources I have used are sometimes outdated, that's where Alphabet Spaces comes in. The Spaces Database functions like a wiki where users can add new spaces, flag spaces for closure or report them, and leave comments and ratings.
What it does
Alphabet Spaces is a decentralized social media application where users can find and list LGBTQ Safe Spaces.
How we built it
The front end was built in React, the database is Firebase, and the user authentication and social media followers were implemented with Deso. Hosted on GoDaddy.
Challenges we ran into
In my research for APIs to use to pull the LGBTQ-owned/friendly businesses I only found three APIs/Databases that have that information and none of them have endpoints that I can use, that's why I decided to store the Spaces in my own database. Deso also doesn't have a simple way for me to store the Spaces information on chain but that would be a useful feature to implement.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am proud of building a functional application in such short time!
What we learned
I learned more about Firebase and firestore as I've only used it once before. I also learned about the Deso blockchain and calling their API.
What's next for Alphabet Spaces
I hope to continue working on this application for the community, I see it as something that's needed and would be appreciated.
