We didn't have much inspiration for this project, we simply came up with what would be feasible in the time we had.
What it does
Alone is a text based adventure game that places you on a broken space ship. Memory loss has made you forget what you're doing on that ship, but it is in critical need of fixing.
How we built it
This was coded in pure c, making heavy use of the printf function and if else statements. We started off with the starting path where you make your first choice in the game. Then we spilt the paths up, so people were working on different paths. This made it more efficient to code as we could get more things done at once.
Challenges we ran into
Our biggest challenge was keeping track of all the possible storylines that could come up. With all the different scenarios we had, whenever we made a change to one function it would affect a lot of other functions and would break the program. We would fix the problem, which would usually break something else that we would have to fix.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of finishing the program on time, and making it pretty engaging. Something we struggle with is overestimating the amount of coding we can get done in a weekend, so actually finishing a project is something we're proud of.
What we learned
We learned a lot about managing different storylines and making sure we have every possible outcome sorted out. We learned that if there's a problem that we can't find the solution for, backtracking and taking a different route is usually better than working ourselves into a dead end.
What's next for Alone
We don't have any plans for continuing development of Alone, it was just a project to test our skills and to put on our resumes.
