Inspiration:
The Inspiration for this project is simply just never being able to figure out what to do, where to go, where to eat whenever I travel someplace new without having to use a million different apps and sources. Sometimes it even affects me when at home, because everywhere I normally go to has bored me. So, to make life easier, I decided to make information and ideas on stays, restaurants, and attractions at any place in the world available under one platform!
What it does
Once you enter the portal, you find yourself in an explore page, where you can look up any location of your choice and find restaurants, attractions, and stays at those places! It also gives you an expected price range, further information on those places, what cuisines they offer, their address, phone numbers, and much more!
How we built it
this project was build by a very tired student without much prior experience, using:
- React Native + Expo
- Tailwind + Nativewind CSS
- Google Cloud Maps API
- RapidAPI
- Github
Challenges we ran into
I was finding it quite difficult to get the locations from the google places search API to link with the results of the RapidAPI, took quite some time to figure this one out
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am proud of being able to build something that is actually useful and helpful for people in the long run.
What I learnt from this
I learnt to build a whole, functional app by my lonesome in a very short amount of time. I managed to implement multiple APIs and integrate them with each other as well, which I thought was really impressive to have learnt and done in just one night. But mostly I learnt how much of an impact just a short amount of time could have on your knowledge; this hackathon brought the best out of me.
What's next for Aloha?
1) added features 2) faster API calls and results 3) won't stop at just attractions, restaurants, and hotels
