Inspiration

The recent spotlight on police brutality has started a much needed conversation about systemic racism. In the month of June, social media was flooded with Black Lives Matter and allyship resources, but as time goes on, less resources get shared less and less. Black lives matter is not just a moment, and the fight against racism needs to be a sustained moment. Right now, there are tons of resources in the form of long lists on Google docs and series of links. This app will hopefully help with information overload by pre-curating resources to learn from. Studies show that many social justice activists also experience some kind of burnout. By providing a schedule, this app aims to fight activism fatigue by helping users pace themselves. There are also thousands of organizations people can donate to, and parsing through information and finding an organization to donate to can be a tedious task. The directory can provide information about some national organizations and help you choose what organization to donate to and what that organization does.

What it does

Mobile app that has recommends a movie/documentary, book, and a podcast for every week over a six week time frame. There is also an organization directory to help people find places to donate to.

Technical:

  • Limited experience in mobile development
  • Didn’t have enough time to code a working prototype in full

Logistical:

  • Time zone difference (2 Members in CST, 1 in IST)

What we learned
