Ally

Inspiration

We have multiple friends with allergies, and they all had difficulties with finding accessible and safe solutions when they are travelling. This way, we created Ally so that everyone can have access to a healthier future, especially when it comes to travel.

The problem that we tackled was the challenge of managing one’s health concerns while traveling, especially to foreign countries. From our user research, we found that the most prevalent of these concerns include allergies (food and airborne), water quality, necessary vaccinations, and how one may respond to the climate/weather. Further, some respondents to our survey also mentioned that their allergies and other conditions, like eczema, limit them in where they can travel to, due to their reactions. This highlights a prominent accessibility concern within traveling. As such, by providing easily accessible and personalized information, we can help travelers proactively mitigate health risks and prepare appropriately. This ultimately can aid the traveler in having the ease of mind and confidence in their wellbeing to explore further.

Firstly, we decided upon an app for Ally due to its ease of access for the traveler, and its ability to communicate information efficiently. Contentwise, we decided to sort the health concerns from our research into the following categories: allergies, water quality, medication/vaccines, and climate. This addresses the problem, as our app doesn’t just focus on one specific area, like only allergies, but we provide an overview of information. Further, we are geared towards travelers, meaning that we are tackling a niche that is mainly concerning COVID-19 recently, which we discovered from a competitive analysis. For example, Travel Healthy! is an app that is dedicated to tracking illness symptoms during international travel. General health information has always been a resource, but only through websites, such as the CDC’s recommendations for certain countries. Thus, with Ally, we can help travelers with their general travel health concerns in a familiar format.
