The problem

Before a business can commission useful software, it needs a clear account of the problem, the scope and the decisions that have actually been made. Ally Ahead is an AI reception proof of concept that helps turn an initial idea into a requirements specification that a person can discuss, revise and explicitly approve.

What Ally Ahead does

The bilingual Chinese/English experience starts without a platform account. A visitor describes a business problem to an AI Agent, which can consult relevant public case summaries, compare approaches and record useful conversation outcomes.

Visitors can upload non-confidential TXT, Markdown, DOCX or text-based PDF reference material. The application shows summaries and extraction coverage, while the Agent can search and read the original extracted passages. Scanned PDFs require an external OCR step.

When the visitor explicitly requests a requirements document, the Agent prepares it for preview and Markdown download. The visitor can request revisions and independently confirm the current version. A revision requires a new confirmation.

The video demonstrates a separately approved USD 500.00 PayPal Sandbox checkout, a receipt and simulated publication. The repository also implements user-requested full test refunds, but a completed refund is not shown in the video. All payments use test funds. Payment does not select an expert, create a contract or start work.

How it is built

React, TypeScript and Vite power the homepage, reception interface, document preview and checkout. Express and PostgreSQL manage temporary sessions, ordered Agent history, document metadata, payment snapshots and consultation traces.

The native Pi SDK 1.4.0 runs the Agent tool loop with six progressively disclosed skills and validated communicate deliveries. Approved intermediate results can be saved while the Agent continues; unfinished text remains a draft. Browser speech reads final replies. The running project uses GLM 5.3. The model provider, model ID and HTTPS endpoint are explicitly configurable, and model requests are disabled until configured. Codex was used during development.

Mammoth and PDF.js extract reference documents. Local UUID-based file storage keeps the original files available alongside their metadata.

How PayPal is used

PayPal is the payment step attached to a confirmed requirements document. The PayPal JS SDK loads only after the user separately agrees to test checkout. Server-side PayPal Sandbox Orders and Payments API calls use stable request IDs and verify payment status before recording the result against the confirmed document.

Refunds are user-initiated rather than automatic. An uncertain payment or refund response remains uncertain until reconciled. The implementation keeps document confirmation, payment consent, a verified receipt and simulated publication as distinct states.

Engineering challenges addressed

The POC focuses on preserving the boundary between an AI suggestion and a human-approved action: document revisions require renewed confirmation, checkout has separate consent, and refunds need an explicit user request. Document summaries also expose extraction coverage so that missing source material is not silently treated as complete.

Synthetic tests cover HTTP, PostgreSQL and the native Pi SDK with a scripted provider and mocked PayPal responses. Browser tests intercept the PayPal SDK with a mock button; these fixtures do not create real payments or model requests.

What I learned

It was quick to get started, especially with AI assistance. The PayPal integration was straightforward, and the debugging process was convenient and clear. The experience provided practical value for integrating payment workflows quickly.

Try it and scope

The hosted demo is at https://ally-poc.aixagent.cloud/. Source code and local setup instructions are at https://github.com/peikuo/ally-ahead-poc.

Use synthetic or non-confidential reference material. The POC covers anonymous reception, requirements preparation and a Sandbox payment demonstration. Accounts, workspaces, expert recruitment, proposal evaluation, contracting and project delivery are outside its current scope.
