Inspiration

As someone with food allergies. Always having to worry about food allergens is always annoying. So having an app that allows people to check their food quickly without worrying was a great idea. So I set off on the journey of building AllerScan

What it does

Allerscan allows users to easily scan barcodes on the item they want to eat and see if it has any things that they are allergic to. People can now spend less time worrying and more time enjoying the food and being in the moment.

How we built it

We used React as our framework and Vite during development. Then we used a API from the World Open Food Facts to scan the barcode and get information about the food. Then we check if any of their allegens are in the food or have any traces. And finally give them the final verdict within seconds.

Challenges we ran into

As this was my first public application with mobile support. UI/UX design was a big challenge for me. However after learning a lot through this project I have become much better at mobile UI/UX design allowing me to sharpen my skills.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am not only proud about the fact that I built a project that anyone can use at no cost to help their daily life. But it can help me save time. I am also really proud about the fact that this was a solo project I completed by myself.

What we learned

I learned a lot about UI/UX design and using react. It has taught me a lot and lets me sharpen my skills to become a better developer. And with round 2 I took it to an even higher level improving the UX in major ways.

What's next for AllerScan

If there is a market and want for AllerScan development will likely continue with things such as bug fixing, new features, and even the chance of AI powered features.
