Inspiration
The inspiration for this project comes from the fact that people around us have allergies. At times, it can be difficult to determine whether a specific food item is safe to eat.
What It Does
Based on personalized allergy information, the app recommends foods that are safe to eat, eliminating the hassle of checking all the ingredients in a food item.
How We Built It
The app was built using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, with the Node.js framework utilized for the website's backend.
Challenges We Encountered
As first-time hosts for APIs used to serve and process allergy-related data, we faced challenges that took longer than anticipated. Fetching data from external APIs was a new experience for us, but it played a crucial role in the app's functionality.
Accomplishments We're Proud Of
We are proud to have learned Node.js and how to configure external APIs. The need for an allergy advisor is critical in today's environment, and we are pleased to have developed a solution that addresses this need.
What's Next for Allergy Advisor
The next version of the Allergy Advisor app will include data on packaged foods, canned foods, instant meals, and pre-prepared frozen meals, helping users determine whether these items are safe to consume. Additionally, in case of an allergic reaction, the app will provide emergency instructions with the guidance of licensed medical professionals.
