All My Friends

Inspiration

We were inspired by different people’s tastes, and seeing how there’s an untapped market in finding commonalities between you and your friends' music taste. We took upon this challenge to begin work on a long-term project to analyze similarities in music tastes between your friends, curating a playlist based on songs you and your friend share in common, as well as recommending songs from your friends playlists that we think you would enjoy.

What it does

All My Friends determine how compatible you and your friends are. We have a login page for the users, which leads to the friends search page. Once you search up a friend, you'll see their profile stats and compatability stats in terms of genre/artist taste, and common songs in playlist.

How we built it

We used a lot of youtube tutorials to learn the basics of many of the coding languages. We also had to help each other out to start the foundation of the project and then work on the more specific details.

Challenges we ran into

The challenges we faced were many. For most of us, this was our first in person hackathon experience. We are Sophomores who are used to only coding in C++ for class. We chose to challenge ourselves and learn HTML, CSS, and Javascript. We had to also quickly learn about Spotify’s API. This was our first time working on a bigger project with teammates and using Github.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We learned HTML, CSS, bootstrap, how to use APIs, and how to collaborate on github. These languages and technologies were all new to us and even though we didn't develop a completely functioning program, we learned a lot through this process

What we learned

We learned how to program in HTML, CSS, and how APIs work. We didn’t have much experience with these languages and technologies before, but we learned through advice from the internet and hackers.

What's next for All My Friends

Our program can be greatly expanded upon. The program can be expanded to include more than two people sharing. Furthermore, if given enough time and patience, the program can expand to include cross-platform functionality with other streaming services, such as Apple Music. “All My Friends” has a lot of potential, and our group plans on finishing this program in our free time to launch something Spotify themselves haven’t gotten to yet :)
