All About Scams

Inspiration

One of today’s most common problems is online scams. The Internet has made people easier to connect with each other. Unfortunately, it has also made it easier for scammers to target victims. Luckily, we can use this technology to educate people and create awareness about today’s online scams to reduce the number of victims falling into scams.

What it does

Our project is a website that informs the user about different kinds of scams. The user can read about different scams, receive updates, and even communicate with others through forums and posts. We also made an extension that redirects a user away from potentially harmful links. When a harmful link is searched it redirects the user to our link where they can learn about the different kinds of scams.

How we built it

The website was built using Velo Wix and the google extension was made with windows visual studio code. They were both made using javascript.

Challenges we ran into

When making a dark mode button we ran into some problems that did not allow us to change the background color to black. This forced us to instant use a black image for the background and also create the code for each page separately.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are overall proud of the whole project. I would say we are proud mostly of how the extension came out and how the dark and light mode switch came out.

What we learned

We learned how to use Wix and Velo to create a website and also learned how to create a google extension. We had to learn both of these skills, which was a great learning experience. I think everyone on the team is happy with how it came out.

What's next for All About Scams Website

I would say that we will just keep expanding our website and making sure that it is up to date. Also, the extension must be checked on a regular basis to make sure it still runs on scam likely websites.
