Inspiration
The inspiration for The Living Dead stems from the renowned Japanese film All About Lily Chou-Chou. In that film, the protagonist witnesses death twice in his life and comes close to death himself. The fragility of life transforms the protagonist from a bright high school boy into a decadent and violent delinquent. He succumbs to a sense of nihilism, unable to grasp the meaning of life due to its fragility. He fails to understand the purpose of living or how to treat life. In contrast, the protagonist of The Living Dead is already a despondent individual. Though facing similar experiences—confronting the deaths of those close to him—the fragility of life in this work becomes the catalyst that spurs Zhao Ye to cherish existence.
