Climate change is something that regularly impacts everyone on earth. The reason it still exists is not that people don't care, it is because they are still confused as to how they can make a difference. Our team believed that this was the real problem that we had to solve. To do so we came up with the idea of creating an app that would allow users to set goals for themselves, after seeing how much they are contributing to climate change.

What it does

Our app calculates the user's carbon footprint every day by asking them a series of questions. This calculated result is then plotted onto a graph which can give the user an idea about whether they are actually making a difference in their daily life. The app also allows users to set new goals for themselves after they achieve their previous goals.

How I built it

Because we have no prior experience with programming an app, we created a wireframe on canva on what our app would potentially look like. With more coding experience in the future, we would love to bring Alisa to life.

Challenges I ran into

Figuring out how to calculate a person's carbon footprint was a difficulty. When actually trying to calculate a person's carbon footprint there were a lot of complex mathematical equations involved. Because of this, it took us some time to come up with good questions to ask the user.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

We are proud that we were able to work as a group in an efficient and effective manner from our own houses. This experience has really helped us work on our collaboration skills as a group.

What I learned

We learned a lot about carbon footprint and the effects an individual's carbon footprint can have on the rest of the world. We also learned each person must have an annual carbon footprint that is less than 2 tons. Considering the fact that a lot of us have a calculated annual carbon footprint greater than 5 tons, we also have a lot of work to do to help the environment.

What's next for Alisa: The Smart and Virtual Carbon Footprint Calculator

For Alisa, our next step would be to use our wireframe and actually create our Smart and Virtual Carbon Footprint Calculator. To do this, we as a group must look for an appropriate app developing software that would allow us to do so.
