Inspiration
The inspiration for this game was the common theme, if you could go back in time to fix a mistake, would you. In this case, the hero is faced with unspeakable evil that he has taken upon himself to correct.
What it does
It is a Unity project hosted on Amazon S3 using CloudFont. It allows a user to explore a small bit of a city and use time to build knowledge and make the correct steps on day 1 and day 2 so that he can be successful on day 3.
How we built it
We used Amazon Q to help us with our Amazon publishing. It also answered some heavy programming problems along the way like pausing animations, getting particle collisions, and the general sanity check ie If I am googling and asking AI about this 'issue' then it is probably something I did wrong.
Challenges we ran into
We could have used more time. Issues came up in real life that hamstrung us in the 4th quarter. Also, some of the code that I found to help me sometimes created more unknown problems. Definitely have to take code suggestions with a grain of salt sometimes.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I've been trying to finish an entry in a video game hackathon since 2006. This is the first time I felt I had a complete vision to share.
What we learned
Amazon Q is an amazing helper when it comes to code. Some of the problems it inherently understood when I asked it questions and it considered my code makes it an excellent tool to use. I also learned how to publish to Amazon, and that static builds of Unity3d rest comfortably in React production builds.
What's next for Alien Hack Switch
I'd love to get a playable version out in the world and just see if we can make a name for ourselves. Alien Hack Switch is just one of many ideas that I've had over the years. Honestly, it isn't even 15% implemented.
