Inspiration

Our concept draws came from popular and classic mini games that we thought people found most engaging. We aimed to combine the ideas of mini-basketball, bowling, and golf into a single game. Additionally, our design was structurally based on Jenga, and the chair-stacking games served as the primary influences for our design.

We also realized that players tend to lose interest in single-use toys, so we decided that having a multipurpose game would increase the interest of the consumers and promote sustainability by reducing material waste.

What it does

Our figurines serve as a multipurpose game, allowing users to transition between the various games to be continuously entertained. They can be used in a balancing game where players can attempt to stack and balance figurines on top of each other, or they can be set up as bowling pins to be toppled in as few shots as possible. Furthermore, these two can be combined to form a competitive multiplayer game. Once done playing the desired game, these figures can be used as colourful and cute decor.

How we built it

We utilized Autodesk Inventor to create 3D models before 3D printing prototypes.

Challenges we ran into

It was difficult to come up with designs that could be balanced and oriented in various ways when mixed with the other models, so we had to adjust initial designs with new measurements to allow for more versatility. We also incorporated pockets and sunken sections where the limbs of figurines could be interwoven with one another.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Despite it only being able to print our first prototype, we were surprised at the functionality of our game! They are able to stack on top of each other and fostering a fun and engaging playing environment. We also found that both of our games are achievable, and they look super cute.

What we learned

Print now, make changes later! We learned that printing our initial prototype helps us identify critical flaws and areas where changes needed to be made. It was especially true for our game, where the key function was for the different figurines to be able to interlock with one another, and physical testing allowed us to ensure that the figurines were able to maintain stability while growing in height.

What's next for Alien Amusables

We aim to develop a wider variety of alien shapes and face variations, expand on the utilities/games of our figurines, and release a line of collectible aliens for the HUGE Amusables fans.
We also want to work on the stability of the figurines to ensure the stacking structure will be resilient, and in turn, increase the difficulty of topping the tower of figurines. We enhance the competitive spirit and engagement of the game.
