Inspiration
The project was inspired by the idea of fashion as a portal a threshold between reality and imagination. We wanted to explore how design, movement, and cinematic storytelling could transform a handcrafted garment into a piece of living art. “Alice Through the Golden Door” draws from the language of luxury fashion films and AI-generated dreams. It reimagines a woman stepping through opulence not as fantasy, but as a reflection of identity, memory, and transformation.
What it does
The film blends AI-driven cinematography and fashion storytelling to showcase craftsmanship in a cinematic, surreal world. Through soft camera motion, atmospheric light, and couture-inspired styling, it turns a simple garment a black embroidered bustier and draped skirt into a metaphor for rebirth and self-discovery.
Each scene from the embroidered close-ups to the grand gilded ballroom represents the crossing of worlds: from craftsmanship to couture, from artistry to luxury, from dream to self-awareness.
How we built it
The project was designed using a mix of AI video generation tools (like Veo 3 and Runway) and 3D-enhanced cinematography concepts. We began with handcrafted fashion photography and turned it into narrative AI prompts, focusing on: Light simulation inspired by Baroque paintings. Fabric physics and motion to enhance realism. AI-generated camera movement for cinematic flow. Layered compositing to merge real and digital textures. This hybrid workflow allowed us to push the boundaries of fashion film creation — achieving luxury visual language with digital storytelling precision.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was maintaining authentic fabric movement and realistic lighting in AI-generated environments. Capturing the fine embroidery and natural motion of draped fabric required balancing multiple generations and compositing passes. Another challenge was creating AI realism that still felt human ensuring the story evoked emotion rather than appearing overly synthetic.

- The film’s opening sequence where the embroidered ribbons sway as gilded doors open became a signature visual moment symbolizing the transition between worlds. ## What we learned We learned that AI is not a replacement for creativity — it’s a tool for amplification. When guided by a strong narrative and aesthetic vision, it can elevate storytelling beyond traditional limits. This project taught us to combine fashion design principles, light theory, and AI prompt architecture to craft visuals that feel timeless and cinematic.
What's next for Alice through the Golden Door
The next phase expands the concept into a fashion anthology series, where each film explores a new threshold — light, time, emotion, and memory — through couture storytelling. We aim to collaborate with more fashion houses, stylists, and AI creators to push the intersection of digital filmmaking and luxury brand identity even further.
