Our teams decided to create a Computer Science Survival Guide because we felt it was something that we could all relate to and was a fun idea. We decided that making the survival guide a game would be more engaging for users and create a more interesting experience. The project is themed after Alice in Wonderland because that was this year's Technica theming.
What it does
The user plays as Alice and can choose between 4 topics: Java(Cheshire Cat), Python(white rabbit), object-oriented programming(Queen of Hearts), and study tips(Mad Hatter). Each category has a set of questions, and the user has to pick the correct answer as the options are raining down on them.
How we built it
We used React to construct the site for our game.
Challenges we ran into
We were initially going to use scratch to create the game, but we couldn't figure out a way for us to collaborate on a single project.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We completed our first hackathon, so that's great. We also managed to create and put together the elements of our game even though this is our first attempt at creating a game.
What we learned
We learned a lot about programming languages we were not as familiar with such as HTML, CSS, and javascript, as well as Python(for our in-game questions).
What's Next for Alice's Computer Science Survival Guide
We may take the time to improve the game and the visuals, as well as add more questions to the game.
