Inspiration
Introduction The Alhazen Holo is a futuristic holographic projector inspired by Ibn al-Haytham (Alhazen), the father of modern optics. This high-tech holo-emitter device is designed for advanced 3D visual communication and data visualization, with the ultimate goal of transforming how we interact with visual information. My project is about driving the evolution of technology, particularly in the field of visual experiences. I aim to push the boundaries of immersive, clear, and user-friendly tools that will revolutionize the way we study, communicate, and demonstrate ideas. My focus is on empowering creators, especially in Los Angeles, a hub of creativity and representation, to use this technology in diverse fields.
Historical Context: Ibn al-Haytham (Alhazen) Ibn al-Haytham was a philosopher and scientist (965–1040 CE) widely recognized as the "father of optics." His groundbreaking work, The Book of Optics, laid the foundation for modern theories of light and vision. He explained how light enters the eye, developed concepts about lenses and refraction, and introduced the camera obscura, a precursor to photography. Moreover, Alhazen pioneered the scientific method, using experimentation to study optics. His legacy remains vital today as his insights into light and lenses still inform our current understanding of holography and visual technologies.
Connection to Modern Technology: Holography and Vision Holograms, like those produced by the Alhazen Holo, use light to create 3D AR projections, a concept directly linked to Alhazen's studies of light refraction and reflection. The understanding of how light interacts with objects and lenses forms the foundation for digital holography and holo-communication. This alignment between historical optics and modern technology sets the stage for Alhazen Holo to become a pivotal player in the future of visual communication with AR.
What it does
The Alhazen Holo is a visionary device designed as a fixed-point AR marker that enhances augmented reality (AR) experiences by providing a stable, trackable point for smartphone cameras to interact with in real-world environments. Inspired by Ibn al-Haytham (Alhazen), the father of optics, this technology bridges the gap between historical optics and modern holography by utilizing light and cameras to bring digital content into physical spaces.
How I built it
- Key Components: Physical Device (Size of AirTag): a compact device similar in size to an AirTag, focusing on ease of use and portability. The form factor of an AirTag is ideal for embedding necessary tech such as sensors and communication hardware. Wireless Communication (Bluetooth or NFC): AirTags use Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and Ultra-Wideband (UWB) to communicate. leverage similar wireless protocols, so the phone can recognize the proximity and location of the device. Consider using BLE for general communication and UWB for precise location tracking. Marker or Identifier for AR: The device can serve as a physical marker. To ensure your phone camera can identify the specific point, you could integrate a QR code, AR marker (like ARKit or ARCore), or RFID tag that the camera or software can easily detect. Apple's ARKit could help anchor AR experiences by recognizing the marker when scanned. Software for Identification: An app (or an API integration) that uses camera-based AR tracking to recognize the physical marker, similar to how Apple's ARKit or Google’s ARCore identify real-world points to pin virtual objects. You can program the phone’s camera to scan the marker and trigger an AR experience with an Open source software.
Challenges I ran into
The Material Parts are I don't have them so I had to improvise with what I had around some of the parts are a little expensive so I came with creative ways to create the Demos but are not working due to that time and money where big factors to complete the project but if a problem involves money then is not really a problem.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
what I came out with the idea the Non ( working Demos ) the product the goal overall the project that I am proud of. And the Benefits of the Alhazen Holo: Brings AR into the physical world with fixed, reliable points that smartphones can track. Simple and portable solution for businesses, events, and educational institutions to deliver interactive experiences. Durable design for outdoor and indoor use, ensuring longevity and consistent performance. Transforms how users interact with digital content, making experiences more immersive and engaging and available for everyone and cross platform friendly Open source.
What I learned
I learned a lot about optics and more about AR that I knew when I register for this event Alhalzen and the fundamentals of Optics amimg to Holograms and AR 3D experiences in a Physical plain.
What's next for Alhalzen
To elaborate the desire product and overcome the obstacles of the prototype and elaborate a good user experience to see what's next . this are the main points to work on
Compact Design: A weather-resistant, designed to be placed outdoors or in various environments, making it durable and reliable for long-term use. AR Activation: trigger AR content to appear at the fixed point, creating an interactive experience directly in the real world. LED Communication with the user and signals the activation of the AR experience, ensuring a clear visual cue for engaging with the content. Applications in Various Fields: From education to business, the device can support interactive learning in classrooms, enhance retail experiences, and transform tourism by overlaying AR content on historical sites or city landmarks. connect and updated Remotely with new or variable experiences ,Transform the Future.
