[Inspiration] Woke up early and thinking why students fear Algebra. In books, 2x+5=15 looks boring. What if we make it a funny drama? That's how Algebra Alive was born - 7 characters which I created playing Algebra.
[What it does] Algebra Alive is an interactive skit + game:
- Mr. X - The missing hero (wearing goggles)
- Officer Equals (=) - Keeps balance
- Number 2 - Bodyguard of X
- Constant 5- Drama queen
- Ms. Y- Best friend of X
Students solve 2x+5=15 by moving characters. Step 1: 2x+5=15 Step 2: 2x = 15-5 = 10 (5 moves to other side, becomes -5) Step 3: x = 10/2 = 5 (2 moves, becomes divide) We learn where Algebra is used: shopping, coding in C++, engineering.
[How we built it]
- Wrote a 7-member funny skit script
- Made character cards in Canva
- Logic tested with C++ code using
do-whileloop to find X - Example: Solving 2x+5=15 gives x=5
Challenges we ran into
- Giving equal dialogues to all 7 charaters which I created was tough
- Making maths funny but still educational
Accomplishments that we're proud of Converted a boring equation into a 6-minute comedy that everyone remembers.
[What we learned] Algebra is not formulas, it's a story. X is the answer we search in life.
[What's next for Algebra Alive] Convert this skit into a mobile app and website where characters talk and move. Use in schools.
