Inspiration
AI assistants become more useful when they can securely interact with external tools and services. AlexaMCP explores how the Model Context Protocol (MCP) can help connect Amazon Alexa+ experiences with practical tool-based workflows.
What it does
AlexaMCP is an open-source project focused on integrating Alexa+ with MCP-compatible tools through a standardized interface. Its goal is to enable structured tool discovery and execution, with appropriate validation and error handling.
How we built it
We focused on MCP integration, tool definitions, request handling, and a developer-friendly setup. The implementation is designed around the MCP protocol and the requirements of the Alexa+ track.
Challenges we faced
Key challenges include ensuring protocol compatibility, handling tool inputs reliably, configuring remote connectivity, and testing tool execution end to end.
What we learned
We learned the importance of protocol compliance, clear tool schemas, secure execution, and testing real integrations rather than relying only on simulated responses.
What's next
We plan to expand supported tools, improve observability and error reporting, strengthen security, and make deployment easier for developers.
