Inspiration

Voice assistants should be more than just simple rule-based tools. We wanted to build a smart, conversational assistant for Alexa that integrates generative AI to answer open-ended questions, offer daily productivity guidance, and handle complex queries naturally.

What it does

Alexa+ Voice Assistant transforms everyday interaction:

• Intelligent Q&A: Answers general knowledge and custom user queries smoothly.
• Productivity Guidance: Offers smart tips and dynamic suggestions on command.
• Fallback Handling: Gracefully handles unexpected requests without crashing.

How we built it

• Alexa Skills Kit (ASK) SDK: Handled custom intents and request dispatching.
• Node.js Lambda Backend: Managed logic execution and API integration.
• Interaction Model (JSON): Configured custom slots (AMAZON.SearchQuery) and intents for flexible phrasing.

Challenges we ran into

• Handling edge-case utterances within custom slot types.
• Ensuring low latency and quick response times for conversational flows.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

• Successfully connected custom voice interactions with dynamic JavaScript handlers.
• Delivered a clean, reliable user experience on the Alexa Simulator and supported hardware.

What's next for Alexa+ AI Voice Assistant

• Adding personalized task management with persistent database support.
