Inspiration
Voice assistants are transforming from simple command-response speakers into proactive, context-aware agents. With the arrival of next-generation intelligence in Alexa+, we wanted to explore how a multimodal web interface could simulate real-time conversational reasoning, dynamic tool calling, and immediate visual feedback without requiring specialized hardware.
What it does
Our project is a simulated Alexa+ agentic web experience. It allows users to interact through real-time voice or text to handle complex, multi-step tasks. When a user gives an open-ended prompt, the agent:
- Understands intent and contextual context.
- Calls mock tools (e.g., event scheduling, workflow automation, real-time summaries).
- Streams voice responses while dynamically rendering structured visual cards and actionable widgets on screen.
How we built it
- Frontend: Next.js, React, and Tailwind CSS for a responsive, modern glassmorphic dashboard with dynamic audio waveform visualizations.
- Voice Interaction: Web Speech API / browser audio streaming for low-latency hands-free capture and text-to-speech output.
- Agent Orchestration: Structured tool/function-calling pipelines connecting user prompts to agentic execution flows.
- Backend & Cloud: Node.js/TypeScript runtime with documented AWS service integrations.
Challenges we faced
- Ensuring real-time speech synthesis felt conversational and synchronized with dynamic UI updates.
- Structuring prompt schemas to guarantee dependable tool calls without latency lag.
- Designing an adaptive layout that behaves equally well as an ambient display and an active productivity workspace.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Delivering a smooth simulated Alexa+ voice experience directly in a standard web browser.
- Achieving fast tool execution and rendering rich interactive cards instead of plain text responses.
- Creating an extensible architecture ready for real-world Model Context Protocol (MCP) tool integration.
What we learned
- How modern agentic architectures decompose conversational context into discrete, reliable tool invocations.
- Best practices for streaming structured UI components alongside audio responses.
What's next for the project
- Connecting the agent pipeline to a fully compliant self-hosted MCP server over Streamable HTTP.
- Expanding tool integrations to include smart home simulation, calendar sync, and third-party developer APIs.
