Inspiration
I wanted to build something that could make everyday planning easier. Managing college assignments, deadlines, study schedules, and personal goals can sometimes feel overwhelming. Instead of switching between different apps, I wanted to bring these things together in one place. That idea became Alexa+ LifePilot, a personal assistant designed to help people stay organized and make better use of their time.
What it does
Alexa+ LifePilot combines task management, daily planning, productivity tracking, and AI-powered conversations in one dashboard. Users can ask for help prioritizing assignments, planning their day, preparing for technical interviews, and organizing their work. My goal was to make the experience simple, interactive, and useful for students and anyone who wants to manage their time better.
How we built it
I developed the frontend using React.js and Vite, focusing on a clean interface and an interactive dashboard. The backend is built with Python and FastAPI, which connects the frontend to the assistant and its productivity features. I also worked on conversation management, task-related tools, and Amazon Bedrock integration. Finally, I deployed the frontend and backend separately on Render to make the application accessible online.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was connecting the frontend and backend after deployment. I had to troubleshoot API URLs, environment variables, and CORS configuration. I also faced an issue where the assistant sometimes repeated generic responses instead of answering the user's question. Debugging these problems helped me understand how important proper integration, testing, and response handling are when building AI applications.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm proud to have brought the different parts of the project together into a working full-stack application. Building the dashboard, setting up the backend APIs, integrating the AI provider, and deploying the services gave me practical experience beyond simply creating a frontend design. I'm especially proud that this project gave me the opportunity to work through real development and deployment challenges.
What we learned
Through this project, I gained hands-on experience with React, FastAPI, REST APIs, AI agent architecture, conversation handling, and cloud deployment. I also learned that an AI application needs more than a model connection: it needs reliable backend logic, meaningful responses, and a smooth user experience. Most importantly, I learned how to troubleshoot problems and improve a project step by step.
What's next for Alexa+ LifePilot
I want to make Alexa+ LifePilot more personalized and reliable by improving its conversational responses and connecting task updates to persistent storage. Future improvements could include calendar integration, smart reminders, voice interaction, and recommendations based on individual goals and schedules. My vision is to turn LifePilot into a practical assistant that helps people stay focused, organized, and productive throughout their day.
