Inspiration

Navigating modern job descriptions and Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) can be daunting for job seekers. Many candidates struggle to identify missing skill sets or prepare effectively for interview questions tailored to specific roles. We built Alexa Career Coach to act as an intelligent, voice-first companion that simplifies application prep by conducting mock interviews, analyzing skill gaps, and delivering real-time interactive feedback.

What it does

Alexa Career Coach provides a simulated Alexa+ voice-driven experience alongside an interactive web interface:

  • Resume & JD Match Analysis: Compares candidate resumes against job descriptions to compute match alignment and extract missing core competencies.
  • Simulated Alexa+ Voice Interface: Delivers natural voice responses that speak out candidate feedback and critical missing skill gaps.
  • Interactive Mock Interviewer: Generates targeted interview questions based on extracted job description requirements and offers constructive voice critique.

How we built it

  • Voice Agent Simulation: Implemented a simulated Alexa+ agent experience within the web app using custom Python agent workflows.
  • Backend & Analytics: Built with Python, processing skill tokens using Regular Expressions (re) and structured data manipulation via Pandas.
  • Frontend UI: Structured using Streamlit to provide real-time audio playback, interactive controls, and visual metric dashboards.

Challenges we faced

Structuring natural agent interaction patterns within a web interface required balancing real-time text parsing with responsive speech synthesis. Designing the simulation to accurately reflect Alexa+ voice interaction guidelines while delivering concise, actionable career feedback was a key focus.

What we learned

We gained valuable insights into designing agentic voice interfaces, mapping user skill sets to dynamic job specifications, and building modular Python architectures for AI assistant tools.
