Breaking Language Barriers: A Journey in Building My First Live Agent The Spark of Inspiration My inspiration stemmed from two distinct, yet connected, experiences: The X Space Epiphany: While listening to a Space on X, some speakers suddenly switched to their native language because the majority of the audience understood it. That moment caught my attention and sparked a thought: "This would be so cool if I could understand everything as it was being said." A Passion for Global Media: As a fan of Korean movies and Japanese anime, I often want to truly understand the meaning of the opening and ending theme songs, not just listen to how they sound. Without a translator, the deeper meaning behind the words is lost.

What started as a desire to build a real-time translator to break down these language barriers quickly expanded. Since I was already building a live agent, I decided to add more robust features: Text explanation Text-to-speech for written content Image text interpretation

Facing the Code "I never believed there would come a time when I’d be able to develop an agent completely by myself." Building this agent taught me to face my fears head-on. I have always disliked coding because it usually gives me a headache, but this experience pushed me beyond that boundary. In the end, I learned that true growth happens when you challenge yourself especially in the areas that seem difficult or uncomfortable at first.

The Building Process: A UX-First Approach Because I am not a developer, I relied heavily on my UI/UX skills and the experience I’ve gathered over time. A lot of the development process came from thinking deeply about the user experience and how the product should feel and function. At every stage, my development cycle was driven by questions: What could make this better? What else can I add? Shouldn’t this be faster and smoother?

That mindset kept pushing me to improve the project bit by bit. I tested it repeatedly, going back and forth through the functions to ensure everything worked properly. For me, it was less about being a coding expert and more about using creativity, problem-solving, and constant testing to bring the idea to life.

The Major Hurdle & The Power of Resilience Building this project stretched me mentally. I started working on it on March 7, and after spending days improving and perfecting the agent, I hit a massive roadblock: it kept telling me the API was invalid. I tried everything: Changed the API multiple times. Added billing to my console. Asked AI for troubleshooting help. Reached out to friends in the space. Nothing worked. Ultimately, I had no choice but to delete the agent and start all over again. It was frustrating, exhausting, and honestly overwhelming. Having already lost valuable time, I had to push through several sleepless nights just to rebuild the project and meet my deadline. But looking back, that experience showed me exactly how much resilience and determination I possess, even when things completely fall apart.
