Inspiration
Me and my best friend struggle when we want to eat snacks. I am lactose intolerant and she is basically allergic to the world. and so it scares us to buy packages of food like chips and juices etc. it is dangerous to eat this type of food and it's hard to read the ingredients sometimes. so I created this app to make her life a little bit easier.
What it does
You enter the allergies you have. For example, corn, dairy, nuts ... etc. then you scan the bar code of the product before you buy it and it will tell you're allergic to something in it.
How we built it
Android studio, API, JSON, Java, barcode detection, Google Firebase.
Challenges we ran into
Finding an API that has enough information for popular products. the struggle was to find resources. therefore, I created my own database.

Using Android Studio and barcode detection.
What we learned
It is hard to get accurate information from API's. Therefore, always check the information and update your database. Learning how to use the Android studio and image recognition.
What's next for Alert Me
Expanding the database, having users create profiles and update their allergies and save it firebase.
