USER GENERATED CONTENT: 2 main features:
1: Player-Created Challenges
Users can create their own custom daily challenges. Example: "Can you make a dragon without using element fire?" Other players attempt it. It's basically like sharing your custom-made map except it's Alchemy. Give the goal, the restraints & see the fastest redditor up for the challenge. &
2: Community Recipes:
Draw your own objects/elements you want added!! E.g I want horse in-game. Draw it, submit it, community decides what gets added.
Other Reddit players can vote: Upvote: add this element to Alchemy Lab Downvote: reject it Popular recipes get added into the game's discovery pool. Generates debate & buzz
So the game evolves because of the players. Community first ^-^
What it does
Start with 5 elements and combine them to discover everything from bread to dinosaurs. Every day has a goal object that players try to create through experimentation.
Players can also freely explore combinations and unlock new creations for their collection.
How we built it
Built using Reddit Devvit with React, TypeScript, and Phaser.
Phaser powers the interactive alchemy workspace, while React manages menus, achievements, and progression systems.
Challenges we ran into
Trying to keep it simple to get but still complex enough to be fun AND be deeply community focused: user generated content. Designing a combination system that feels surprising while keeping discoveries logical and rewarding. Creating a smooth drag-and-combine experience that feels like a game rather than a simple interface.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Creating a simple gameplay loop that is easy to understand but encourages long-term discovery. Building a daily challenge system. Also encourages people to share their recipes, random rare achievements they got, or their wackiest combos. Meme factor often drives share-ability naturally rather than forced clear cut stuff, so we have USER GENERATED combinations of elements that strikes conversation, comments, posts, screenshots.
What we learned
Small interactions and satisfying feedback are what make simple games feel addictive.
A good game mechanic can create endless possibilities from a small set of rules.
What's next for Alchemy Lab
Add more discoveries, rarer combinations, achievements, community challenges, and more daily experiments.
