Inspiration and What it does

We observed that booking appointments with doctors in Canada is challenging because physicians are often overbooked and too few appointments are available online. To address this issue, we designed a user-friendly platform that not only helps patients schedule appointments with the right doctors, but also improves physicians’ speed and efficiency. Patients complete an online form before their appointment, which is then summarized on the platform for the doctor. In addition, the doctor receives an AI-generated preliminary diagnosis to support faster and more informed decision-making. We believe this tool could later incorporate additional features, including AI-assisted interpretation of medical tests and radiology images, to help healthcare professionals carry out their work more effectively.

How we built it

We leveraged the technical skills we developed through our internships and engineering training to build this application, while also using AI agents to automate repetitive tasks. To achieve this, we designed an application running in Docker containers, with a React frontend, a FastAPI backend, and a PostgreSQL database.

Challenges we ran into

We faced several challenges, particularly in designing the application, building the data pipeline, and integrating AI into our platform. We fully immersed ourselves in the project to deliver our very best and create a high-quality solution.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of our interface design and front-end development, which are modern, intuitive, and inclusive. We hope it will help thousands of people access high-quality medical appointments.

What we learned

We learned a great deal during this hackathon, from strengthening our ability to work under pressure and within tight time constraints to, most importantly, designing innovative solutions that address a critical market need.

What's next for AlauCare

We plan to further enhance the platform’s features, deepen the integration of AI, and connect with physicians so the project can reach and benefit as many people as possible.
