Inspiration
We’ve all seen our parents struggle with leases and car damages. Maybe a dent from the Burger King parking lot, a stray Owala that hit a car door, or a bad hail storm on the windshield. We wanted to make something that could help make life easier for Toyota customers and keep their famous brand loyalty alive.
What it does
Our website helps users figure out the severity of damages on their car, based on photos and their lease. We include an account log in to make sure our user data stays secure. Our user simply uploads their lease and supporting documents, as well as photos of their car. We use an agent to analyze and separate the damages into 3 categories: urgent conditions, those who need attention, and those who fall under minor wear. The user gets a detailed description of both the damage as well as the next steps needed to fix it.
How we built it
We used React Native with the Expo framework to set up the application, both on mobile and desktop devices. This allowed us to easily separate pages and make the app cohesive.
Challenges we ran into
Our biggest challenge was building our full stack. We wanted to take on a big project for our first Hackathon, and with that came a lot of engineering challenges. Making everything reliable took a lot of time, effort, and above all else communication.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud of what we were able to accomplish as a team. We had a blast at our first Hackathon but we also were able to coordinate and discuss in a way that really brought out all of our strengths.
What we learned
We learned many valuable skills on time management, especially with the strict time limit that the hackathon operated under. Over time, we progressively improved at effectively splitting up the work we still needed to complete, and we believe the skills that we developed during our time in this event will help us going forward.
What's next for ToyotaTrace
We hope to expand our product to integrate with the Toyota Financial Services mobile app. That way, customers have a one stop shop for figuring out their lease. We also hope to be able to save and compare car damages over time, so customers can get a better idea of the progression of damages on their car.
